Snow Day

Phew! Maryland has given us quite the welcome. Since we arrived six months ago we've had three snowstorms, a windstorm, and several trees down in the backyard as a result. It's really interesting to watch the whole city shut down, and for someone who has lived in New England and Keflavik, Iceland - I find myself scoffing at the weather. "How bad can it be?" Turns out...it can get pretty bad when the city isn't prepared to deal with these extreme weather conditions. Appointments canceled, work closed, kids out from school for the day - I haven't seen anything like this since we left Keflavik in 2001. In the midst of all this we've had a baby! Theodore Charles Evan Bulzone was born on January 9th at 8:40am after 34 hours of labor. He really was trying to stay in, and considering the day he was born D.C. was under a cloud of rain and light snow, I don't blame him. He was 10lbs and 21''. Emerson was the same weight, and an inch shorter - I seem to make large baby boys. It's been an idyllic post-partum period. My mom was here for a whole month, and John was even able to take off three weeks for paternity leave. Right now, Theodore, or Teddy is 10 weeks old. And even though John has returned to work, we're all at home enjoying the weather. It has been snowing steadily since 8am. I admittedly cannot stand cold weather, but it's warmer out when it snows, so I let John talk me into going outside to play in it. While he built a snowman and had a snowball fight with the kids, I walked around our neighborhood and brought my camera with me. It was refreshing to say the least. I haven't shot in so long, I was missing it. Enjoy some of my favorite shots from today's snow day, Teddy just woke up and is calling me. Time to take off my photographer hat and put on my mom hat. I hope this winter, ahem, spring (it's the second day of spring today) is treating you well. Talk soon.
