So, you're not entirely sure you're going to be able to book a session. I know, I know...Shannon SAYS she'll help me plan every step of the way. But I know that's just to get me in the door. How could one person possibly help me plan every step of an entire photoshoot?
Does this sound like you? It's cool. I'm used to fielding doubtful questions from clients who just are not sure they'll be able to pull this whole boudoir shoot thing off. I don't take it personally...I'm the expert, it's my job to be the expert for you.
With that in mind, I've decided to share a teeny tiny bit of what it's like to experience a fully custom boudoir session. That means I'm going to show you a part of my digital magazine - the Shoot Countdown. The Welcome Magazine is a guide I send to my clients about three to four weeks prior to their sessions. It covers all the details needed from my address, how to reschedule (don't, lol), payment plan, and more importantly: How to Prepare for your session.
Shoot Countdown
FIVE DAYS PRIOR
- Wax that
If you wax, now is the best time to do so. Why? Because if there is any discomfort (let's face it, you're waxing...there will be some) you'll give your skin time to cool off. Also, if you develop any little bumpies around your bikini area after the wax, this is the perfect amount of time to start treating them. Around five days later, you'll see them start to resolve. Don't forget your eyebrows, make sure they're properly shaped and groomed.
- Eat and Drink Well
Want luminous skin the day of your shoot? Bump up your water intake, and limit any salty foods. There’s no doubt that our skin can swell sometimes. Most often, this is because our body is retaining water. Why do we retain water? Because we’re dehydrated and our body is protecting us. If you want to reduce puffiness and swelling and smooth out your skin, make sure you’re drinking enough water.
THREE DAYS PRIOR
- Get a Manicure and Pedicure
Nails are often overlooked when prepping for a boudoir session, but they're so crucial to elevating your look. The act of soaking your hands and feet in warm water and getting a stimulating massage at the end of the treatment promotes blood circulation. Gentle exfoliation with a scrub also increases the flow of blood, thus giving your skin a healthy and rejuvenated look.
- Try on Your Outfits
Three days before the session is a great time to finalize your outfits and make sure everything still fits the way you want it to. If you're having fit problems or feeling unsure about an outfits now, you still have enough time to make changes to your wardrobe choices. Use this time as well to set aside any accessories you want to include in your session. Jewelry, heels, cuffs, scarves...gather it all up and decide what's going to come with you and what will be staying home.
ONE DAY PRIOR
- Double check everything is packed and ready
There's nothing worse than planning for a session for months and realizing once you've arrived that you don't have the one piece you really wanted to include. I know you just tried everything on, but go back through and make sure you didn't put aside anything you actually want to bring.
- Remove tags from new outfits
With scissors, not your teeth. Haha!
This is a very top level view of the shoot countdown in my boudoir Welcome Magazine, I hope it helped give you a more detailed view of how exactly I prep my clients for their best boudoir experience. Are you ready to start planning yours? Let's do this! I'd love to hear how I can create a custom boudoir session for you.
