Ask Me Anything part three is here!
These questions are from real women just like you who have wondered what this whole boudoir thing is about. If that sounds like you, then I definitely think this is a great series of posts to start with to get your feet wet. In this last installment we'll be covering posing, when you see your images, and why investing in yourself is always a great decision. And don't miss the other articles in this series: part one and part two.
Let's go!
Question: Should I practice posing or bring poses I saw on Pinterest with me to the shoot to show you?
Answer: I absolutely do not expect clients to walk into my studio with any amount of posing knowledge or practice. None of the women you see on this site are professional models. If you're on the hunt for a photographer, you should know if they use models or women without posing training like you. The images you see on my site are women with desk jobs, they're, moms, cat lovers, and all kinds of girls-next-door. Of course, you are welcome to practice your "sexy blue steel" in the mirror prior to rolling up to the studio, but it is not necessary nor would I want you to stress about it. Clients occasionally make suggestions of poses that they see on Pinterest and I will happily recreate them in a way that represents my style. When I'm reviewing the images that you Pin, I'm looking for a certain mood to the photos, or a theme. That way I can tailor your session and make it truly custom.
Question: Can you Photoshop my [insert body part here] to make it look like [insert impossible beauty standard here]
Answer: Is 'kinda' an answer? Lol, let's go with yes, and no. Yes, I use flattering posing, careful use of angles and meticulous editing to help you look like the best version of yourself. That said, I value authenticity, and you should too (especially if you hired me). That means if your butt doesn't already look like Kim K's, it won't look like it in your edited photos either. But that is ok, because I am quite certain your butt is amazing already lol! In all seriousness though: I don't typically do extensive editing to change things that make you you because I like you the way you are. Things like color correction and small blemish removal are included, but things like digitally altering your body shape are not. However if it is something you desperately want, it can usually be done but there is a per-image flat rate fee associated with those types of extensive edits.
Question: Can I bring a friend or my significant other with me for the shoot?
Answer: That sounds like so much fun, doesn't it? It does. In theory. But here's why it doesn't work: this experience works best when you and I make a connection. Believe it or not, having someone else in the room, even if it is someone you love, can be a huge distraction and can get us off track. The only input and opinions that matter to me are yours, and the easiest way to build your trust is to have a chance to chat prior to your session. We'll have lots of chats, texts, and by the time you come into the studio we may even have an inside joke or two. Listen, I totally get that it can be a little scary to come into this experience blind, which is why I make sure to chat with you long before your session. The number one thing my clients say about me is that I feel like a friend. This is so important to me because I want you to feel 100% comfortable, and I want you to know I am truly invested in making this an amazingly positive experience!
Ok, but Shannon...I REALLY want to bring a friend with me.
I do offer a "Double Your Pleasure" discount where you and a friend book one 60 minute session on the same date and split the time evenly. It is a good way to have a fun girls day with a friend while also getting a deal on your session fee. Contact me for more info about this promotion!
Question: Do I have to use your hair and makeup artist?
Answer: Yes. I trust the members of my team to provide the most amazing experience, you'll love the way you look. Also, I can ensure my team will be available on the day and time of your shoot. This ensures everything is seamless and much less work for you. You just get to relax and show up, I'll have the experts required assembled and ready to pamper you.
As always, if you have more questions or would like more details I'd be happy to walk you through the whole experience. Send me an email and let's chat!
